I was previously offering two types of sessions–Nervous System-Oriented Therapeutic Massage and Somatic Bodywork–but I am currently only offering my standard Nervous System-Oriented Therapeutic Massage session for general booking.
I have left information up about my other offering since Somatic Bodywork deeply informs my practice. If you are interested specifically in the Somatic Bodywork sessions and would like to incorporate those techniques into our session, please contact me directly and we can discuss developing a special session that meets your needs.

Nervous System-Oriented Therapeutic Massage

This is my standard offering. I use touch of varying pressure, assisted movement, and gentle assisted stretching to release patterns of tension held in the nervous system and increase range of motion. These sessions are great for general relaxation, muscle tension, and relief from chronic pain. The client is not expected to participate or interact with me in these sessions.

In a Therapeutic Massage session, I will use whatever quality and depth of pressure resonates best for the client and produces the best results. This type of session would be appropriate for people who are seeking common modalities such as deep tissue massage, myofascial release, or trigger point therapy. My style of massage is multi-modal, which means I draw techniques from multiple styles of bodywork, combining them within a nervous-system oriented framework.

All Nervous System-Oriented Therapeutic Massage sessions include optional heat therapy and aromatherapy at no extra charge.

Somatic Bodywork Session with Verbal Cues

I am currently taking a break from offering full Somatic Bodywork Sessions. However, I routinely incorporate techniques from this modality into my standard massage, and all of my work is informed by an understanding of trauma and the nervous system. Please let me know if you would like to discuss nervous system/emotional regulation issues or would like engagement through verbal cues during your session and I will be happy to make adjustments to the “standard” massage to hopefully meet these needs.

This type of session focuses less on relieving muscle tension, and more on deep nervous system contact. It is appropriate for those who are looking to develop emotional regulation, work on trauma release, or access deeper roots of chronic pain conditions.

The techniques I use in these sessions are based on my training in Somatic Experiencing and Cranial Sacral Therapy, as taught by Janet Evergreen. For more information, feel free to check out Janet’s website: https://janetevergreen.com/

In the Somatic Bodywork Session, I aim to help my client drop into a place of deep relaxation and attunement with their own bodily sensations. Depending upon the client’s needs and desires, I may use gentle verbal cues to help move their awareness to different bodily sensations. Through that awareness of body, the goal is to gradually develop the ability to become aware and remain present with their full range of emotional states.

This powerful somatic modality can bring up unexpected emotional responses, and while deeply healing, can be quite intense. I take my responsibility for the well-being of my clients very seriously. These sessions are NOT about pushing beyond comfortable boundaries, but about slowly exploring and opening up to bodily sensations. My primary goal is to create a space of safety where these sensations and emotions can arise and the nervous system can ultimately enter a state of parasympathetic relaxation. This is the “rest and digest” state so critical to our bodies’ healthy functioning, supported by the relationship between therapist and client.

These verbally-cued somatic sessions differ from my regular massage sessions in several important ways: they may be more involved on the part of the client (I may request verbal feedback); they include verbal cues; and the quality of the touch is lighter. Though usually quite relaxing, it is also important to remember that these sessions can be emotionally intense for some individuals.
